What we celebrate?
Оn the third Thursday of May Ukraine and the world mark International Vyshyvanka Day — a global celebration of Ukrainian culture, unity, and identity. This year we celebrate its 20th anniversary. What began as a small student initiative in Chernivtsi, founded by Lesia Voroniul and her friends, has grown into a worldwide movement. Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine wear vyshyvankas across the globe as a symbol of solidarity, love, and cultural pride. A vyshyvanka is more than traditional clothing — it is identity, heritage, and strength woven into every thread.
The initiative
To mark the 20th anniversary, Lesia Voroniuk has signed a special book telling the story of Vyshyvanka Day — from a student idea to a global cultural phenomenon. We are launching a charity auction for this unique copy, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting Ukrainian defenders.

How are they used?
They are used by Ukrainians, who repurpose lithium-ion batteries from single-use vapes to power essential equipment. The batteries can also be used for power banks, to power any technology, which is particularly important in the affected areas, where there is no electricity.
How are they transported to Ukraine?
We use a reliable courier, with whom we have been working since the beginning of a full-scale invasion. He delivers aid from us to Ukraine every weekend.
Where to donate them?
Just bring the cigarettes to any of these locations. Alternatively, contact us for the address for postage:
Who organises the fundraiser?
Women Fight for Ukraine with our volunteer, Maryna, who manages the project from Kyiv, as well as our partnering organisations, who help us with the initiative.
